After 67 freezing days hauling 100kg sleds over 1,100km on skis against bone-chilling winds, they had reached the South Pole, the first for a group from Southeast Asia. Lulin Reutens worked as a journalist for The Straits Times for over 20 years and subsequently as an editorial consultant and writer for 16 years before retiring in 2010. She loves the outdoors and has at different times been passionate about water-skiing, scuba diving and mountain trekking. An eager home cook and baker, she enjoys feeding family and friends — she once made brownies at Everest base camp at 5,300m for the sherpas. Her son is the owner and chef of a restaurant in Manhattan, but no, she does not help with the cooking there.
